The sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) concluded with the Mohammad Rizwan-led Multan Sultans winning their first title. The team did get off to a shaky start in the first leg of the tournament in Karachi but changed their fortunes in the Abu Dhabi leg by bouncing back stronger. They finished second on the points table at the end of the round-robin games and then went on to beat the Peshawar Zalmi in the final by 47 runs.

Meanwhile, the bowling coach of the Sultans, Azhar Mahmood opened up about the team’s character in turning things around for them. He also shared his experience of working with the head coach of the team Andy Flower. Azhar heaped praise on Andy stating that the thing that makes him stand out is his ability to pay attention to the views of others. Azhar also said that it was an honour for him to work with Andy and that he admires his knowledge of the game.

“I have had the honour to work with Andy Flower during T10 and in two editions of PSL and I absolutely love the guy! He has great knowledge of the modern-day game and he is renowned the world over as a coach, but the most important aspect of his style of coaching is the way he pays attention to the views of others,” Mahmood wrote in his latest blog for PakPassion.net.

After having described the amazing time he has had with the former Zimbabwean, Azhar stated about Flower taking up the mantle of being the head of the Pakistan side. “I don’t see any reason why Andy Flower cannot take on the role of Pakistan head coach in the future,” Mahmood stated.

Azhar Mahmood on Multan Sultan’s fightback in the tournament

Owing to the surge of the COVID-19 pandemic, the PSL had to be paused. The Sultans didn’t get to a flying start in the first leg of the tournament but tightened their seat belts to bounce back in the second leg held.

In T20 cricket, momentum plays a major role in going ahead in the tournament. Speaking about the same, Mahmood asserted that their first win in the second leg of the tournament helped the team concentrate on one game at a time. He also had his say on how not worrying about the position in the points table assists in changing things around.

“To be honest, our victory in the first game of the Abu Dhabi leg seemed to put a new resolve in our players and showed how just by concentrating on one game at a time, and not worrying about where you are in the table, any side can turn things around,” he added.
