South African wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock has brushed aside the comparisons that have been drawn up between him and legendary Australian keeper Adam Gilchrist. The 23-year old southpaw has been in the news lately following some fantastic performances with the bat in South Africa’s ongoing tour down under.

De Kock was the hero for the Proteas in the first innings at Perth when he saved the visitors of their blushes with a blazing knock. This was followed up by some impressive batsmanship in the second Test at Hobart where the wicketkeeper-batsman once again showed his class and his skill with the bat as he slammed 104, a knock that saw him smash and acquire a few records to his name.

However, in spite of all this, the 23-year old Quinton de Kock added that the comparison between him and Gilchrist was something rather ridiculous. Speaking about the same, he also said that it was rather stupid since Gilchrist was the one who revolutionized the position of wicketkeeper-batsman role with 17 Test centuries, often turning matches with his prodigious hitting.

De Kock added that he did not try to play like him and was also said that he was someone who just played the way he played. He also reiterated the fact that he was nothing like him and that he had his own game plan and a way of going about his batting. “I don’t try to play like him, it’s just the way I play,” de Kock said.

“I don’t see myself being like him, I just see the ball, hit the ball type thing, have my own certain game plan. So that’s the way I like to play,” he said.

The 23-year old now has 540 runs in the calendar year at an average of 80, something unprecedented to say the least. Some days I can get off to a good start and keep a good momentum for the team, and some days I am going to need to grind it out,” de Kock said.
