The last 8 weeks have been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride for India’s stylish opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan. The left-hander starred for India in the recently concluded Asia Cup in the UAE, which India won narrowly against Bangladesh in a thrilling final. However, prior to a victorious Asia Cup campaign, Dhawan was perhaps down in the dumps following a dismal Test series against England.

Shikhar Dhawan is yet to establish himself as a successful Test cricketer, especially outside the subcontinent. However, the selectors backed him to perform against England. After Murali Vijay was sent back home following two failures in the first two Tests, Dhawan was pretty much assured an opening slot alongside KL Rahul. He nevertheless failed to convert his starts into big scores, and was dismissed repeatedly playing shots outside the off stump.

But ‘Gabbar’ was able to leave the disappointing England Test series behind and came back to India’s ODI setup for the Asia Cup in style. Alongside skipper Rohit Sharma, Dhawan piled up the runs for team India, and made short work of chases in the tournament. He finished with two centuries in the Asia Cup, and eventually went home with the Man of the Series award for scoring the most number of runs in the tournament.

Shikhar Dhawan would have been hoping to sneak back into India’s Test squad, but the selectors decided to go with youngster Prithvi Shaw, who immediately delivered with a sensational century on debut. Nevertheless, Dhawan has been hitting the gym and posted a video of him working out ahead of the limited overs series against the Windies. The video had the following caption, “Holidays doesn’t make any difference to me. Nothing stops me from training.”
