The International Cricket Council’s (ICC) meeting is underway in Dubai where they are bringing up all the important issues and making decisions. Among the issues discussed was the use of Decision Review System (DRS) in the World T20 as well as Women’s World Cup. Prior to this the DRS was used in the men’s World Cup and Champions Trophy but not in the women’s versions of the tournaments.

ICC Chief Executive Officer Dave Richardson in a video published on Twitter by the ICC talked about the proposed changes. DRS will make its debut in World T20 2018 and will be used for all the events thereafter. The proposal of implementation of the review system in bilateral series’ has also been put ahead of the cricket committee of the global governing body and the Chief executives will decide whether they wish to use it in the meantime.

“The Board also confirmed in the meetings that we will use DRS for the Champions Trophy and the Women’s world cup previously we didn’t use DRS for women’s event now we are going to use it in all the televised games of Women’s World Cup. In addition to that for the World T20 both men and women we will use the DRS. That means it will impact the Women’s World T20 in 2018 scheduled for the West Indies which will be the first time that it happens and after that in Australia in 2020.” Richardson said.

“The aspect of whether we should use DRS in bilateral T20 cricket is still to be discussed by the cricket committee and also it will be considered by the Chief executives whether they want to adopt it anyway in the meantime until the cricket committee decides whether they want to use it on a bilaterally agreed basis.” He also added.

Among the various discussions, the ICC also agreed to overturn the Big 3 system despite opposition from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and that will be a boost to the smaller members who will now get a larger share in revenue from the ICC.
