The three-match Test series between India and Sri Lanka is set to commence on November 16 with the first Test to be held at the Eden Gardens. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly, and the ‘Prince of Kolkata’, today inspected the pitch that will play host to the first India-Sri Lanka Test and mentioned that the track will produce a good contest.

The Test side is in top form with eight consecutive series wins, the latest being the 3-0 whitewash versus Sri Lanka at home. Interestingly, if skipper Virat Kohli is able to lead the team to whitewash the Lankans 3-0, he will surpass Ganguly’s record of 21 Test wins as captain. Currently, Kohli has captained India in 29 Test matches, out of which they have won 19 games. MS Dhoni tops the list with 27 wins in 60 matches. If Kohli’s side manages to win two Tests, then he will level Ganguly’s record.

“It will be a good wicket,” the CAB president told PTI. Dada is fondly remembered for his playing days and is doing an equally good job as the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal. When asked how different playing and administrating are, the 45-year-old said playing is always more difficult compared to administration.

“Here you miss and you get out, in every other thing you get a second chance. As a player you don’t… Playing is always difficult there’s no retake for a player,” Ganguly later said at a promotional event also attended by India’s first World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev.

What Kapil Dev had to say

Kapil remembered his sacking from the Indian team in the fourth Test against England at the Eden Gardens in December 1984. “I was not in Kolkata, I was back in Delhi as I was out of the team enjoying a six-day holiday given to me by the selectors,” he quipped when asked about the incident.

The Islanders, who lost 0-9 across formats at home against India earlier this year, will play three Tests, three ODIs and three T20s on the tour.
