The global pandemic of COVID-19 has caused a huge problem across the globe. Several people are suffering from this disease which has caused a global crisis. The number of people who have been tested positive has gone up to 10 lakhs. In the European continent, the situation probably the worst if you compare it to other parts of the globe.
On Friday, the Warwickshire County Cricket Club (WCCC) announced that it was handing over the Edgbaston Cricket stadium to the government to use for useful purposes. For now, the stadium will be used to create a drive-through for COVID-19 testing station for the National Health Service (NHS) staff, who are fighting against the global pandemic.
After Lord’s, Edgbaston to be also used for medical purposes
On the club’s official website, it was mentioned that main on-site car parking will be used for regular testing of medical staff who are working in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands region. It also mentioned that the NHS staff will drive from the Edgbaston Road entrance and will be tested while they are in the car and exit the ground from the Pershore road.
“With our county cricket programme and conference & events business closed until 29 May, our staff have been exploring various options which enable the club to keep supporting our local community during these difficult times,” WCCC Chief Executive, Neil Snowball said as quoted by Sportstar.
“Whether that be through making calls to our elderly members and ex-players, volunteering and by offering Edgbaston Stadium for use in the wider civil contingency effort,” he added.
The situation in the United Kingdom is also quite worse. Currently, there are more than 33,000 people in the UK who have been diagnosed with the coronavirus disease. There are more than 30,000 active cases and the number of people who have died due to the disease in the country as almost close to 3000.
