BCCI is heading towards the deadline to implement the Lodha panel reforms and the BCCI president Anurag Thakur said that people who haven’t even played the game are trying to administer it.

“People who have never even played the game, they are trying to govern the board. Efforts are being made to cut BCCI’s roots,” said Thakur in his address as chief guest of an event organised by the PHD Chamber in New Delhi.

On July 18, the Supreme Court granted BCCI 6 months to get the reforms into effect. The reforms includes the cooling off period, age cap of 70, one state one vote and ban on ministers. The cooling-off period is that the office-bearers – president, secretary, one vice-president, treasurer and joint secretary would serve a maximum of 3 years of 9 years each across positions and can’t serve for two consecutive terms as that should be broken by a “cooling-off” period.

The recommendation also says that an office-bearer can’t hold more than one position in BCCI or its affiliated units. Thakur himself is the president of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association.

Earlier this week, a deadline was given to BCCI to implement the Lodha panel recommendations. By September 30, seven out of the 11 recommendation must be implemented and the remaining four by 15th of October.

Thakur also spoke about columnist Shobhaa De’s controversial comment on Twitter about the Indian athletes competing in the Rio Olympics. “Goal of Team India at the Olympics: Rio jao. Selfies lo. Khaali haat wapas aao. What a waste of money and opportunity,” De wrote on Twitter.

“Her remarks were in bad taste. It was unbecoming of her. The athletes have to shed a lot of blood and sweat to reach the highest level,” he remarked.
