Australia bowler Ellyse Perry got involved in a tangle with Indian batsman Sushma Verma when the two teams locked horns in the Women’s World Cup on Wednesday. In the 49th over of the match, when the Indians were desperate for every run, Sushma Verma hammered an Ellyse Perry delivery on to leg side which was bound to be a six.

But a brilliant fielding effort from Australia Nicole Bolton saw Australia save 5 runs as she managed to keep the ball inside the boundary. The athletic fielding effort was not the only talking point in that delivery but batsman Sushma Verma crashed straight into Australia’s Ellyse Perry while taking the first run.

As Verma came running to complete her run, Perry stood still in her way and prevented her from touching the crease. Perry’s act looked like an intentional one and Verma went for the second run without completing the first. As a result, the Indians could manage only a single run from the delivery, thanks to Nicole Bolton’s magnificent save and Elysse Perry’s cunning act.

England batsman Jason Roy became the first ever batsman to be given out as a result of obstructing the field last month. The incident took place when England faced South Africa at Cardiff. But in Butler’s case, he was batting while Perry was on the bowling side. Butler blocked a throw in which was directed at the stumps in order to avoid a run-out.

About the match:

Batting first, the Indians started the match extremely slow, but the presence of wickets in hand saw them put up a total of 226 runs on the board. Indian opener Punam Raut played a matured knock of 106 runs and was well supported by skipper Mithali Raj. However, the Australians pulled off a comprehensive victory with 8 wickets in hand and in the 46th over. Aussie captain, Meg Lanning was their highest scorer with a score of 76 runs.
