The Emirates Cricket Board has confirmed that they will indeed be playing hosts for the inaugural edition of the Afghan Premier League organized by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB). While cricket is growing at a rather rapid pace in the country which was considered war-torn not so many years ago, the novel T20 league will indeed be something that promotes it a lot more among the youths as well.

It is understood that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed with the UAE-based cricket board and the arrangements are expected to begin in the next few months. A statement from the Afghan-based cricket board also went on to confirm that the tournament will be held in the month of October once the International Cricket Council gives the green light to organize the activity in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi.

However, as has been the case with almost every other league is a clash of dates for the board, something that will see the APL clash with the home series against Australia. “Our only concern is that dates of APL are clashing with our home series (against the Aussies) which we been organizing in the UAE since 2010 due to security issues…” the official said.

Pakistan and PCB left stranded

While the MoU does come as a welcome boost for the Afghans, the PCB has been thrust into negotiations yet again with the ECB for hosting their matches as well. Pakistan cricket has been on the ascendency in recent times given their impressive series against England and Ireland.

However, Najam Sethi, the PCB chairman has requested for a 35-day window wherein the required logistics and relevant marketing can be carried out in order to host the Pakistan Super League 2019.
