The second edition of the Emirates D10 commenced on March 24 (Wednesday). Like last year, a total of six teams are fighting it out for the glory and two matches took place on the opening day. While Emirates Blues and Dubai locked horns in the first game, the day ended with the game between Fujairah and Sharjah.

It was a high-scoring game first up as Emirates Blues won the toss and opted to field. Fahad Nawaz was the star for Dubai with the bat. He smacked an unbeaten 66 off 34 balls opening the innings with five fours and four sixes. He got good support from Ronak Panoly who scored 31* off 14 balls with three sixes and one four. Thanks to these players, the Dubai side managed to post a total of 120/2 in their allotted 10 overs.

Chasing the total, Emirates were off to a blistering start due to their openers Mohammad Boota and CP Rizwan. The duo added 72 runs in just 5.2 overs. Rizwan got out after scoring a quick-fire 40 off 16 balls with two fours and four massive sixes. Even after the wicket fell, Laxman Manjrekar came out and smacked the ball to all parts of the ground as Emirates chased down the score in 8.5 overs only with nine wickets in hand.

Sharjah defend 101 runs in the second game

In the second and final game of the day, Fujairah couldn’t chase down 102 runs after putting the opposition to bat first. Sharjah were propelled by the consistent contributions from their batsmen with their skipper Fayyaz Ahmed (35*) being the top-scorer. Zahoor Khan (0/11), Ahmed Raza (1/9) and Luqman Hazrat (1/16) bowled well for Fujairah to restrict the opposition to 101 runs.

They were expected to chase the total down easily but Fujairah lost both their openers by the end of the second over. Alishan Sharafu scored solid 32 runs but took 26 balls for it and he didn’t get any support from the other end. Though skipper Ahmed Raza made things interesting with his 20* off just 6 balls, the target was a little too much for him in the end. Fujairah could only reach 92/6 in their 10 overs to lose the game by 9 runs.
