Team India is slated to tour England for a long and gruelling series this year. The tour stretches over two months and will be one of the biggest challenges for the team ahead of the World Cup 2019. The Indian team will play 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs that will be followed by a 5-match Test series. The team, after having done decently well in South Africa will be wanting to find some success in England too.

The last two tours to England were quite embarrassing and they will want to make a statement this time around. The squads for the T20I and ODI series were announced earlier on Tuesday. There were quite a few surprising picks in the squads that raised quite a few eyebrows and also there were some shocking omissions.

Here are the five shocking exclusions in the ODI and T20I squads:

1. Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant has played two games in the Nidahas Trophy for India but hasn’t found great success in those games. However, he has set the IPL on fire this year. He paid back the faith Delhi Daredevils had in him and played some fabulous knocks. He is one of the leading run-scorers this year. In 10 games thus far, Pant has scored 393 runs at an average close to 40.

But, the selectors haven’t picked him in the side. Out-of-form Manish Pandey was given a nod ahead of the dangerous left-handed batsmen. Rishabh Pant would have definitely felt disappointed with this exclusion but he has rightly paid the price for not living up to the expectations in the Indian colours.
