Momentum has ridden on a roller-coaster in the ongoing fourth Test match between India and England at the Kennington Oval in London. Both teams have been neck to neck in the first two days and it will be interesting to see how the remaining contest pans out. Meanwhile, at stumps on Day 2, India were 43/0 with openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul standing strong. Notably, the visitors are still 56 runs behind England’s first-innings total.

Coming to the proceedings of Day 2, the Three Lions resumed at their overnight score of 53/3, trailing 138-run behind India’s first innings total of 190. Virat Kohli’s men started the morning session on a grand note as Umesh Yadav dismissed Dawid Malan and night-watchman Craig Overton inside the first half an hour.

With England getting reduced at 62/5, the Indian camp was ecstatic. However, a substantial partnership between Ollie Pope and Jonny Bairstow ruined their party. The duo added 89 runs for the sixth wicket before Mohammed Siraj dismissed Bairstow. However, Pope didn’t put his guards down and scored a brilliant half-century, taking England past India’s total.

The cherry on the cake was added by Chris Woakes as he scored a quick-fire half-century. Subsequently, the hosts posted 290 runs, earning a substantial lead of 99 runs. However, the tide of the game changed again as Indian openers showed great resilience in the third innings. While the duo tacked the challenging deliveries with precision, they dispatched the loose ones for boundaries.

As a result, India finished the day at 43/0, trailing by 56 runs. Meanwhile, Day 3 has a lot in prospect and both camps must gear up. While England would aim for early wickets, the visitors will look to put a substantial total.
