While England were a tad ahead after the first two days, India gained command on Day 3. The ongoing fourth Test match has already witnessed several momentum shifts and it would be interesting to see how the remaining two days pan out. Meanwhile, India finished the third day at 270/3, leading by 171 runs. With seven wickets in hand and two days remaining, the visitors will back themselves to post a substantial total.

As far as the proceedings of Day 3 are concerned, India resumed at their overnight score of 43/0, trailing by 56 runs. Openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul recommenced from where they left off and scored runs all over the park. They added 83 runs for the first wicket as England’s substantial-looking first-innings lead of 99 runs almost got neutralized.

Meanwhile, Rahul was the first Indian batter to fall. Cheteshwar Pujara came in following his departure and Rohit got another solid partner. The duo continued tormenting England bowlers and put their side on the driver’s seat. In the process, Rohit also brought up his much-awaited century in overseas Test matches. Pujara also advanced to his second half-century of the series.

With India effectively being 137/1 at one stage, everything looked in their favour. However, Ollie Robinson spiced things up once again by dismissing Rohit and Pujara in one over. Nevertheless, skipper Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja took over the baton from the duo and made sure India don’t suffer any further damage till stumps. Notably, the game was stopped earlier due to bad light but India won’t have any complaints.
