England pacer Mark Wood injured his shoulder on the fourth day of the Lord’s Test while trying to save a boundary. In the latest turn of events, England coach Chris Silverwood has given an update regarding his injury ahead of the 3rd Test in Leeds. Wood bowled too well during the 2nd innings of England but could manage to produce only four overs on the final day due to the injury.

The 31-year-old pacer bagged figures of 24.1-2-91.2 during the first innings of the game and returned with 18-4-51-3 figures in the second. He went on to justify his selection ahead of Stuart Broad whose calf injury pushed him out of the entire series.

Silverwood added that England’s medical team are monitoring Wood and his status would be cleared in two days. Wood also added extra care for now as he is an injury-prone cricketer. However, he will have to make his way in the Leeds Test by proving his fitness levels.

“The medics are working on Woody (Mark Wood). We’ll find out more in the next couple of days. He is a bowler who can hit 90mph-plus, so I’ve got to look after him, but he will be given every opportunity to be fit for Leeds and obviously, we will make a decision, along with him, and our medics closer to the time,” said Chris Silverwood while speaking at a press conference on August 17.

India bagged the Lord’s Test by a huge margin of 151 runs

Talking about the Lord’s game, Wood and other bowlers’ efforts went in vain as India showed extraordinary intent to clinch the game by massive 151 runs. The ninth wickets partnership of unbeaten 89 runs by Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah turned out to be the talking point of the final day of the 2nd Test.

However, Indian bowlers still had a tough task to do as they had to wrap up hosts by the end of the day and they did it successfully. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Ishant Sharma, and Mohammed Shami did the job perfectly for India towards the end.
