India cricketer Mohammed Shami is celebrating his 31st birthday on Friday but is not on the field in the ongoing fourth Test against England. The pacer is resting as a part of the workload management having bowled a lot in the first three Tests of the five-match series. Despite not playing, Shami found some of his fans in the crowd chanting for him on his special day.

The birthday boy would’ve loved to played though with India missing him on the field in flat conditions. Shami tends to bowl his heart out when the backs are against the wall and picks up crucial wickets for the team. Nevertheless, he was out on the sidelines with his a few of his teammates and the support staff members.

This is when one of his fans wearing the shirt with ‘Happy Birthday Shami’ written over it, came to him and requested to cut the cake on the occasion of his birthday. And the cricketer duly obliged to the request and cut the cake much to the delight of the crowd and a section of his fans who were chanting his name.

Here’s the video:

Mohammed Shami – Key bowler for India

Mohammed Shami has been the key bowler for India over the years now and the same has been proved again in the ongoing England series. He picked 11 wickets in three Tests and at times looked the most threatening bowler for the visitors. Overall, in his career, he has accounted for 195 wickets in 54 Test matches at an impeccable average of 27.56.

As for the ongoing fourth Test, India have definitely missed Shami’s effectiveness with the ball in the flat conditions. Another poor display of batting in the first innings meant the bowlers had to do well from the word go. With Ishant Sharma also not playing, the bowling attack looked a bit thin on experience with only Jasprit Bumrah carrying the load. Nevertheless, the bowlers have done well to restrict England’s lead and the onus is on batsmen to make a comeback.
