India nearly pulled off an amazing heist in the third and final T20I against England in Nottingham on the back of Suryakumar Yadav’s majestic century. The attacking batter played some astounding shots during his 55-ball stay at the crease, but it was his incredible six in the third man region in the 14th over of the Indian innings that garnered maximum limelight.

India were set a massive target of 216 runs on a pitch that was described as ‘concrete’ by former England skipper Eoin Morgan. After losing Rishabh Pant, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli cheaply inside the first six overs, the result seemed to be a foregone conclusion for the English side. But the batting duo of Suryakumar and Shreyas Iyer consolidated initially before launching a counterattack against the English bowlers.

A 119-run partnership for the fourth wicket brought India right back into the game. The 31-year-old became only the fifth Indian to score a ton in T20Is and during his 117-run innings, he played some innovative shots all around the ground, but his maximum off Richard Gleeson in the 14th over was the best of the lot as he picked the ball off the middle stump and deposited it over the ropes in the third man region, evoking a reaction from former England opener and commentator Nick Knight, who remarked, ” Extraordinary shot from an extraordinary player.”

Indian fans are not liking the omission of Deepak Hooda from the team

Meanwhile, Deepak Hooda’s selection dilemma has been causing a stir among fans and experts alike, who want to see the in-form batter involved more in the playing XI. The middle-order batter was in red-hot form before he was dropped for the second T20I of the series to make way for the returning Virat Kohli.

But the selection of Shreyas Iyer in a dead rubber ahead of Hooda bemused a host of people. Iyer, who has been out of form lately, did manage 28 runs in the match and was involved in a match-turning partnership, but did not make use of his start as India eventually faltered in the chase.
