India Women aren’t experiencing an ideal outing in their lone Test match against England Women at the County Ground in Bristol. The hosts have been phenomenal in their conduct with both the ball and willow, while India Women have been outplayed and have been asked to follow-on.

One of the highlights of the third day of the historic Test match was seamer Katherine Brunt bowling an unplayable delivery to dismiss lower middle-order batsman Pooja Vastrakar. After a collapse of the batting order, India were bowled out for 231, with Shafali Verma scoring 96 on her debut.

Though the visitors looked in trouble, Pooja and Deepti Sharma showed their class and tried to build a partnership to save India from a follow-on. However, bowling in the 80th over with the new ball, Brunt bowled an astounding delivery to send Pooja back to the pavilion. The first ball of the over saw an unplayable delivery from the seamer that pitched on middle and leg and straightway uprooted the bails of the off stump.

The class delivery by Brunt put an end to Vastrakar’s knock of 12 runs off 33 deliveries. In the next over, India lost their last wicket too and their first batting innings came to an end.

India asked to follow-on

The Test match between India and England commenced with English skipper Heather Knight winning the toss and electing to bat first. In their first innings, the hosts managed to put 396 runs on the board. The skipper was the highest run-getter with a knock of 95 runs off 175 deliveries. Knight was aptly supported by Sophia Dunkley and Tammy Beaumont as they added 74 and 66 runs respectively, while Anya Shrubsole scored 47 lower down the order to take her team close to 400 runs.

For India, Sneh Rana shined with the ball as she picked four wickets while Deepti Sharma also had three to her name. India started their innings on a flying note as the openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma added 167 runs for the opening wicket. However, their dismissal caused a collapse of the batting line-up, as India could manage only 231 runs and England have been successful in enforcing a follow-on.
