The tri-series between India A, England Lions and West Indies A teams kicked off today. In the opening encounter, the India A team faced the England Lions. There were some great expectations on India A team because of their performances in the practice games.

They won the first practice game against ECB XI by 125 runs. In the second practice game against Leicestershire, they broke quite some record with a record total of 458 runs in 50 overs. They won that game by a mammoth 281 runs. However, they failed to replicate the same kind of success in the game against England Lions. England Lions won the game by 7 wickets.

India A batsmen fail to deliver

The batting of the India A players in the game was highly disappointing. None of the players succeeded in converting the starts they got into something big that would have been useful for the team. Tom Helm picked Prithvi Shaw early in the innings for just 7 runs. Mayank Agarwal was looking good but got out for 23 runs. Similarly, Shubman Gill and skipper Shreyas Iyer were looking good before they got out.

Both of these men got out at the wrong time. Liam Dawson dismissed them both. Shubman Gill scored 37 runs while Shreyas Iyer scored 42 runs. The best innings came from Rishabh Pant who scored 64 off just 55 balls. Vijay Shankar and Krunal Pandya disappointed with the bat. Axar Patel and Deepak Chahar provided the team with some handy runs at the end as they scored 25 and 21 runs respectively. The team was bowled out for 232 runs in 46.3 overs. Dawson picked 4 wickets.

England Lions complete the chase very easily

The India A bowlers couldn’t make much of an impact in the second innings. The England batsmen milked 49 runs in the first 10 overs providing a very positive start to the chase. Except for Shardul Thakur and Axar Patel, no one else managed to pick any wickets. Nick Gubbins hit a brilliant century and played a crucial part in the chase. He remained not out on 128 runs. Sam Hain scored 54 runs in the chase.

Liam Livingstone scored a quickfire 27 off 24 balls. Ben Foakes finished the chase for England by hitting a four off Krunal Pandya’s bowling in the 42nd over. England won the game by 7 wickets. Shardul Thakur picked two wickets while Axar picked one.
