England have announced their coaching team for the five-match T20I series against West Indies later this month. While Anthony McGrath has been roped in as batting coach, Alan Richardson will serve as the pace-bowling coach. The fielding and wicketkeeper coach will be Paul Tweddle and it will be interesting to see how the trio fares in the mentorship role.

Notably, the five-match series against West Indies gets underway on January 22. As England head coach Chris Silverwood and his staff is currently with the Ashes squad in Australia, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had to announce a separate coaching team for the West Indies tour. Notably, Paul Collingwood was previously confirmed as Head Coach for the tour with Marcus Trescothick an Assistant Coach.

Chris Silverwood-led coaching staff occupied with Ashes

With the Three Lions having specialized coaches for different departments, they shouldn’t miss Chris Silverwood in the Caribbean Islands. Notably, McGrath and Richardson were a part of the England coaching set-up during the ODI and T20I series victory over Pakistan last year. On the other hand, Tweddle has joined the team for the first time.

The new coaching team and the squad will fly for West Indies on Saturday (January 15) and would be raring to make a mark. No member of England’s Ashes squad will get to play in the West Indies series. However, Sam Billings, who was roped in as a back-up ahead of the fifth Test, might be an exception. The wicketkeeper-batter said he stayed back only after getting an assurance of featuring in the West Indies series.

Meanwhile, England have emerged as a formidable force in white-ball cricket. Hence, they are expected to do well against the two-time T20 World Cup champions as well. It must be noted that a T20 World Cup is also staged to take place this year in Australia. England, who finished the 2021 edition as the finalist, would like to go a couple of steps ahead and lift the title for the second time.
