The third England v Pakistan ODI at Trent Bridge will linger in the memory for as long as it is repeated once again. England, perhaps for the first time in their history of One-Day cricket, it was clear that they were not going to hold back. The first innings saw Alex Hales smash records as he whacked a magnificent 171 in England’s first-innings total of 444. Chris Woakes then made the ball do the talking as he claimed 4 wickets with Pakistan being bowled out for 275, 169 runs adrift of the England total. While it is obvious that Alex Hales was indeed England’s best player, we take a quick look at the player ratings for the recently concluded encounter.
Alex Hales – 9.5/10
Quite easily the best player of the match for England was Hales. He smashed the ball to different parts of Nottingham as he smashed 171 off just 122 deliveries. He was severe on Wahab Riaz who seemingly did not seem interested in playing the game at the time. He also picked up the man of the match award for the same.
Jason Roy – 3.5/10
Jason Roy was not his usual self in the match and seemed largely subdued. In spite of the wicket being good for batting, Roy could muster just the 15 runs before he became the first victim of the match as well as for Hasan Ali.
Joe Root – 8/10
It is almost expected that each time Joe Root goes out to bat, the England cricketing faithful expect him to perform and perform big. Sure enough, Root played second fiddle to Alex Hales as he smashed 85 off 86 deliveries.
Jos Buttler – 8.5/10
Another impressive outing for England’s explosive wicketkeeper-batsman. He smashed 90 of just 51 deliveries including 7 boundaries and 7 sixes as he did. He also managed to remain unbeaten with Eoin Morgan till the very end.

Eoin Morgan – 8/10
The England skipper did not need to do much apart from stick to the plans. However, the plans were simply blasted out of proportion as Morgan impressed one and all with some big hitting. Needless to say, he smashed 57 and remained unbeaten till the very end.
Ben Stokes – 6/10
In spite of hogging the limelight prior to the start of the match, Ben Stokes did not have anything to do with the bat as his teammates were already dealing with the Pakistan bowlers. However, having been ready to bowl once again, it was clear that Stokes was more than happy to be given the role as he bowled 4 overs and picked a wicket.
Moeen Ali – 5.5/10
Once again, Moeen Ali’s role with the ball was much more important than the one with the bat. His seven overs saw him concede just 36 runs and pick a wicket as well.

Chris Woakes – 8.5/10
Carrying on from his impressive outing in the Test series, Chris Woakes has proved to become England’s premier strike bowler in ODIs as well. He picked 4 wickets in the 5.4 overs he bowled despite conceding almost 7 runs an over.
Liam Plunkett – 6/10
Perhaps England’s fastest bowler at the moment, Liam Plunkett had little to do with the ball. However, he did manage to keep things tight from his end in the 6 overs that he bowled. He also picked up the important wicket of Shoaib Malik.
Mark Wood – 4/10
In spite of being one of the more expensive bowlers for England at the moment, Mark Wood bowled out his 10 overs and picked 2 wickets. However, he conceded 75 runs in his quota of overs.
Adil Rashid – 4.5/10
Another subdued performance in spite of bowling all his 10 overs. Rashid was severely hit when he was smashed to different parts of the park by Mohammad Amir. However, he picked up 2 wickets in the match.
