Windies missed out on their final chance to secure direct qualification for the 2019 World Cup after losing the first game of the 5-match ODI series against England. Whereas they needed to win a minimum of four games with none going against them. Chris Gayle couldn’t last long in his first ODI appearance after two years as Windies finished at 204/9 due in the restricted 42 overs after a delayed start. An unbeaten century from adopted opener Jonny Bairstow helped England chase down the target in just 30.5 overs for the loss of three wickets.
