The Decision Review System (DRS) is often termed as ‘Dhoni Review System’ only because of his accuracy to get it correct. Headingley crowd witnessed the same once again on Tuesday when Bruce Oxenford was forced to change his decision after giving the veteran out leg before off Moeen Ali. MS Dhoni had immediately signalled for the review after the umpire raised his finger as the team would’ve been in tatters had he not gone for it.

England have bowled extremely well on a slow pitch and kept a lid on the run-scoring from the word go. Virat Kohli played a wonderful knock of 71 runs but his wicket proved to be the turning point as Adil Rashid pounced on the tentative footwork of Suresh Raina in the same over.

Wonderful review

India needed MS Dhoni to play a significant knock and it was important for him to stay until the end after the fall of Raina. Hardik Pandya had just arrived at the crease and a good partnership would’ve taken India to a good score. But the third ball of the 32nd over turned more than expected and hit Dhoni on the back pad and a vociferous appeal followed. Bruce Oxenford thought about it for a while before raising his finger only to prompt the 37-year-old to take a review.

The ball was pitched half-way through the pitch and with turn and bounce, there was every chance of it missing the stumps. After the early formalities, the hawk-eye also suggested the same and the ball was missing the stumps by a long way and the Indian contingent in Leeds cheered loudly for the man they love the most.

Meanwhile, the review left England players and the umpire stunned as they felt it was plumb. The review also proved crucial for the fortunes of the Men in Blue as the veteran scored 42 runs and took India’s total past 200.
