England v India - 2nd ODI: Royal London One-Day Series
info
Suresh Raina.

Suresh Raina was included in the ODI squad after Ambati Rayudu had failed to clear the yo-yo fitness. The team management decided to give him chances in all the matches of the limited-overs leg of the tour. But the left-hander has failed to make the most of his opportunities in the three One-Day Internationals. Moreover, his dismissal in the ongoing series decider has left Twitterati fuming over him.

Raina could only muster a solitary run in the most important game when the team needed him to play a sensible knock. He was dismissed by Adil Rashid soon after Virat Kohli’s timber was disturbed. It was scrambled seam delivery and Raina attempted to glance it. But the ball took a thick inside and Joe Root was aware at the leg-slip who came to field only at that delivery.

Is Raina done in ODIs?

Suresh Raina had a great opportunity to seal his position in the ODI side ahead of the World Cup in the same country but it seems that the left-hander has blown it away. In a couple of outings with the bat, he has scored only 47 runs and it remains to be seen if he will be given more opportunities in the future. He played a decent knock of 46 runs at Lord’s but got out at the wrong time again to Rashid itself.

However, he played all the matches in the United Kingdom and could only play a fruitful inning against Ireland in the second T20I. Against England, he got only one chance with the bat and he scored 27 which doesn’t seem enough to warrant a place in the ODI squad.

As of now, the 31-year-old will have to concentrate on bowling in the ongoing game at Headingley as the pitch will get slower as the match will progress. His part-time off-spinners will be required while defending the total.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Raina’s failure:
