The first day of the fifth rescheduled Test between England and India witnessed the pitch support both teams equally. While the hosts dominated the first half of the day, the visitors took advantage in the second. Veteran pacer James Anderson gave a terrific start to his side when he dismissed both opening batters Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara cheaply.

There were a lot of expectations from Pujara, as he had wreaked havoc during his stint at the County games in England. He had knocked up multiple tons on the English soil and was expected to put up a similar show but his poor form in the Indian jersey continued. With Rohit Sharma being ruled out of the Test due to a Covid-19 positive result, Pujara had to open the batting.

After the top order was dismissed, the focus shifted to Virat Kohli as the fans expected him to put up a solid performance when the team struggled at 64/3. As he started off with his innings, the game had to be halted and the covers were brought on due to rain showers. The first day was expected to have rain, and so it did happen as the players walked off the field.

After a long pause, the rain stopped and the game resumed. Kohli was soon dismissed by Matthew Potts and a sense of disappointment prevailed all over the Indian camp. The charge was then taken over by wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant and senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as the duo rescued the team from grave danger.

The two shared a whopping 222-run partnership, the highest by an Indian pair against the English team for the sixth wicket, as the English bowlers struggled to give their side a breakthrough. While Pant was dismissed by former skipper Joe Root for 146 (111), Jadeja remained unbeaten at 83 (163) at stumps on the first day as India ended at 338/7.

Here’s a look at how the weather will behave during the ENG vs IND clash on Day 2:

The unpredictable English weather will play its game on the second day as well, as rain showers are expected from 7:00 am local time, till 2:00 pm local time. Heavy rainfall is expected between 10 am to 12 pm, as per a report by weather.com. The day is expected to be cloudy, but the sun will come out around 3 pm to put a pause on the rain. The humidity at the start of the play is expected to be around 85% to 89% and it will drop down as the game progresses. Just like the first day, the second day will also witness the covers on the field for quite some time.
