Only 33.4 overs of play were possible on the second day of the Nottingham Test between England and India as rain wiped more than a session and a half, with India trickily placed at 125/4 after 46.4 overs.

The visitors wrapped England for a paltry 183 on the first day on the back a four-for from Jasprit Bumrah and three-for from Mohammed Shami, before openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul took India to a stellar start, adding 97 for the first wicket.

While India was convincingly wiping off the deficit, with both openers digging in deep, leaving the balls to perfection and taking no half measures, Ollie Robinson struck at the stroke of Lunch to end Rohit Sharma’s 107-ball vigil as he hooked a shorter one from him straight to the man at fine leg.

Post Lunch, England managed to make further inroads, pushing India on the backfoot despite their measured start, with James Anderson striking on consecutive deliveries to jolt both Cheteshwar Pujara and his famed rival Virat Kohli, who went down for a golden duck. He forced Pujara to play, pitching the ball on the off-stump line before seaming it away just enough to kiss the outside edge of the bat, with Jos Buttler doing the rest behind the wickets.

To Kohli, Anderson did not deliver the most menacing, wicket-taking delivery, although Kohli edged the ball while attempting to defend it lunging forward, to start his battle on a not-so-ideal note against his 2014 nemesis. India soon lost vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane to a horrible mix-up as he went back run-out for 5. From 97/0, India found itself at 125/4. The heavens opened up and halted the play, which was resumed twice but not long enough to even complete the 47th over, the first delivery of which was bowled four hours before the play for the day was officially abandoned.

Here is a look at how the weather is expected to play on day 3 of England vs India 1st Test:

Rain interruptions are expected in the afternoon, with the temperature hovering between in the teens, a 68% probability of precipitation and 41% probability of thunderstorms, as per accuweather.com. There was a brief time on day two when the sun was out, although any such expectation is difficult on the third day.
