England vs India Weather Forecast for Day 5, 1st Test: Nottingham Weather on August 8

The ongoing 1st Test match between England is heading towards a thrilling end with Day 5 having a lot in prospect. It’s definitely advantage India at the moment as they need 157 runs for victory on the final day with as many as nine wickets in hand. However, runs aren’t expected to come easily on Day 5 of the Trent Bridge track. Hence, England still have their chances of forging a comeback.

As far as the happenings of Day 4 are concerned, the Three Lions resumed at their overnight score of 25/0, trailing 70 runs behind India’s first-innings total. The batting side couldn’t make a fruitful start with Rory Burns and Zak Crawley being dismissed inside the first hour of the day’s play. However, Joe Root walked in at number four and put up an exhibition of the high-class batting.

The talismanic batter was positive in his approach as an enhancement was witnessed in England’s scoring rate. He formed crucial partnerships with Dominic Sibley, Jonny Bairstow, Daniel Lawrence, Jos Buttler, and Sam Curran as England’s lead went past 200. In the process, Root also brought up his 21st Test century.

Riding on his brilliance, England posted 303 in their second innings, setting India a target of 209 runs. Chasing the tricky total, India got off to a brilliant start with openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma tackling the new ball with utmost precision. However, Stuart Broad dismissed Rahul just before the end of the day’s play to spice up the contest.

At stumps on Day 4, India were 52/1 with Rohit and Cheteshwar Pujara being the two batters at the crease. Although Virat Kohli’s men firmly have the command at the moment, the fast bowlers are still getting a lot of assistance from the surface. Also, the likes of James Anderson and Ollie Robinson have been in top-not form. Hence, India can’t afford to be complacent.

While light showers are witnessed at the start of the day’s play, the weather for the rest of the day is cricket-friendly.
