South African-born English cricketer Tom Curran is in line to make his One-Day International debut for the Lions if picked in the playing XI against the Windies next week. The pacer from Surrey has played two Twenty20 Internationals so far and believes he is ready to take on the challenge if given the opportunity. The 22-year-old made his T20I debut against South Africa earlier in June and put up a good performance to make an impression.

The right-arm fast-medium bowler picked up a wicket off the second ball in international cricket and returned with impressive spells at the top and death, reinforcing the reputation he carried from Surrey. This subsequently paved the way for many more opportunities which bore fruit just three months hence. He was not only named in the one-day squad but also earned himself two contracts from lucrative T20 leagues across the world. He is also upbeat on the prospect of playing in the IPL in near future.

Set to play T20 Global League and the Big Bash

Speaking to the media, Curran said on Thursday, “If I’m selected, I’ll be ready to take my chance. Representing England is a huge honor, and often players get a go in one format and, if they go well, that’s their way into other formats. So if my way into other formats is starting with T20, that’s a challenge and something I’m excited about.”

However, he is not the only one who has been impressive with his performances in white-ball cricket. His impeccable performance attracted the eyes of several scouts across the globe. The youngster was eventually narrowed down and roped in for the inaugural T20 Global League in South Africa, where he will play for the Cape Town Knight Riders, and for the Big Bash League with the Hobart Hurricanes.

Curran has shown tremendous promise and donning the national outfit will fuel his ambitions even more. He has enjoyed quick success and will need to keep his foot on the ground and continue doing what he does best.
