The Kings XI Punjab didn’t go all-out for any specific player in this year’s auction but included England’s limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan. The Punjab-based franchise acquired the explosive batsmen for a sum of Rs 2 crore. The English players had a field day at this year’s auction with likes of Mills, Stokes, Roy, Woakes and Jordan being sold for a huge sum of money.

Morgan isn’t new to this league like his other teammates from Britain. He has been a part of three franchisees before namely the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has also been an ambassador of T20, being a part of leagues all around the globe.

However, the left-hander, who is the latest addition to the Punjab squad, claimed that frequent changes of personnel with respect to captaincy will benefit the free-spirited Kings XI Punjab squad. “It depends on the player, on the team. I think for the team that we have, it will work. Maybe, for another side, it may not work. Different individuals react differently to different styles of coaching and leadership. For the free-spirited team that we have, I think, it will work” Morgan was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Citing his personal experience with the successful Sunrisers squad last year, he stated that the team had many leaders and players must take advantage of the scenario. “It (having many leaders in the squad) works as a big advantage. Last year, Sunrisers Hyderabad had three or four captains in the side, and it helped. You just have to utilise it in the right way to make a difference, especially in a tournament like the IPL. We have that and we need to use it to our advantage.” said the southpaw from Ireland.

Morgan further claimed that the batting lineup of his team is one of the most explosive around and the team will tend to play their natural game with backing from their team director Sehwag. “The batting line-up is our X-factor, we have a very explosive middle-order. We have got (David) Miller and (Glenn) Maxwell, (Shaun) Marsh, (Hashim) Amla and Manan Vohra as well. It is a big positive for us.” he added.

“We have a really big batting line-up, with batsmen wanting to play their shots. And with Viru (Virender Sehwag) as the coach, everyone realises that he is very relaxed. He backs the players, and wants everyone to play with freedom and enjoy their cricket, and play the kind of cricket that everyone does on a day-to-day basis.” he concluded.

Kings XI Punjab will kick off their season on April 8 at Holkar stadium in Indore against Rising Pune Supergiants with Glenn maxwell leading the side.
