The last time that Sohail Tanvir played an international match for Pakistan was in April 2017. Since then, the left-arm seamer has not got another chance to represent his country at the highest level.

However, Tanvir has not lost hope and is confident that he can still make a return to the Pakistan national team. Tanvir opined that in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), he got a chance to bat at the No.7 slot. Adding that he usually only got opportunities at No.8 or No.9 before, Tanvir stated that the role of a cricketer is different at different batting slots.

The 36-year-old also confidently added that he was not dismissed in any of the matches that he played in the tournament, and made some great contributions with the willow. Tanvir also said that his batting exploits make his case a lot stronger for a return to the national side.

“In my recent PSL matches, I got an opportunity at number seven after a long while. I was usually getting an opportunity at either number eight or nine in the previous seasons. That role is very different. There you usually get an average of two or four balls in every match. Sometimes you might get six or seven balls. But normally a number nine usually gets four to five balls. On number seven, you get more time at the crease.

You can get around three to four overs, which I usually got when playing for Multan Sultans. I didn’t get out in any matches I played in. I made some great contributions and had some good partnerships with Khushdil Shah. I contributed with the bat against Lahore Qalandars. Obviously, that makes your case stronger,” said Tanvir as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

I can only showcase what I can do for the team: Sohail Tanvir

Sohail Tanvir further stated that he will continue his good form into the Kashmir Premier League as well. Stating that everyone knows that there is an all-rounder’s slot available in the Pakistan lineup at the moment, Tanvir concluded by stating that it is up to the selectors and the management to select him as he can only show what he is capable of.

“I will take this into the Kashmir Premier League and try to perform well. Everyone can see that there is a spot available [in the Pakistan team] that anyone can grab as an all-rounder. I definitely have my mind on it. Obviously, it is not in my hands. I can only showcase what I have and can do for the team. It’s up to the selectors and management,” concluded Tanvir.
