After hanging his boots and bringing curtains to a brilliant 18-year career, Ashish Nehra stepped up in the commentary panel in the ongoing series. Sri Lanka is touring India currently and the first Test commenced on Thursday at the Eden Gardens. Not many expected to see Nehra back on screen so soon, but much to the fans delight, he was back.

Making his debut in the commentary box, Ashish Nehra was all suited up and it was a little unusual for all his teammates to see him that way. When he was seen on the ground all well-dressed and giving his insights about the game alongside Jatin Sapru and Virender Sehwag, a couple of the Indian players spotted him and had a laugh. He went over to have a chat with them.

When the media asked him what did he discuss with the players, “That was nothing to do with cricket,” Nehra told reporters. “When I was on the camera they all were laughing. Because they have seen me in suit so…I went to say hello to them. It was nothing to do with cricket. Bharat Arun was there so we had a laugh about my new role,” Nehra added.

Rain-marred Eden Test heading towards a draw

A major part of both days’ play was interrupted due to rain and in two days, only 33 overs were bowled. Cheteshwar Pujara was the only Indian batsman who looked a little solid in the middle and barring him, everyone faltered. KL Rahul was dismissed off the first ball and Virat Kohli too was dismissed for a 11-ball duck.

Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan, and Ravichandran Ashwin were dismissed in single digits as India finished day 2 at 74/5 in 32.5 overs. Sri Lankans would be devastated if they don’t get a good shot at winning the game, but taking the weather forecasts into consideration, the game is clearly heading towards a stalemate and the fans.
