'Everyone tries to hit the off-spinner' - CSK net bowler Salman Khan reveals MS Dhoni's advice

CSK had always backed their players, no matter how they perform. One of the biggest examples of such a player is Ruturaj Gaikwad. Whether the team performs or not, the Men in Yellow have always searched for unique talents for their squad and one such face in this edition of the IPL is their net bowler Salman Khan.

An off-spin bowler and a son of a groundsman, Salman was called upon by the Chennai-based franchise as a net bowler for IPL 2022. The Mumbai-based young cricketer said he cherishes the opportunity.

“One day, I got a call from a Chennai Super Kings official asking me whether I can join as a net bowler for this season. Later, I got to know my name was recommended by (Mumbai player) Tushar Deshpande. I was excited because I will get a chance to learn, otherwise, I would be just playing club cricket,” Salman told The Indian Express.

Salman also opened up about the conversation that he had with the CSK legend MS Dhoni. “I spoke to Mahi bhai and Jadeja. I want to learn from them, these two months might change my life. I asked Mahi bhai about my bowling. He said, ‘Salman, off-spinner ko T20 mein sab maarne hi dekhte hai, so thoda dimag se dalne ka, jyada sochne ka (in T20s, everyone tries to hit the off-spinner, so put some thought behind your bowling). He said he will speak to me after a few games. The franchise is treating us like everyone else. We are getting the same treatment like everyone else. The environment is superb,” Salman said.

It has been seen that CSK recognize their net bowlers, and based on their performance, they guide them into the main squad. This year, Mukesh Chaudhary, who was with CSK as a net bowler in IPL 2021, was roped into the main squad. Salman has a chance of making it into the team next year if he manages to sway Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja his way.
