Faf du Plessis ruled out of T20I series against Bangladesh

South African skipper Faf du Plessis has been withdrawn from the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh due to lower-back injury. Faf was retired hurt on 91 in the third ODI against Tigers. He was unable to take further part in the match, which the South Africans dominated by 200-run victory to clinch the series 3-0.
Speaking about the extent of the injury, South African team manager Mohammed Moosajee said that the skipper sustained a lower-back strain and will travel to Cape Town for further investigation of the injury.
In his words, according to quotes on Independent Online, “Faf sustained an acute left lumbar (lower-back) strain while batting, and immediately left the field in extreme discomfort, He will return back to Cape Town overnight for investigation and further management, He has been withdrawn from the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh starting in Bloemfontein on Thursday.”
New captain and Faf’s replacement named
Left-handed middle-order batsman Jean Paul Duminy will lead the South African T20 International squad in Faf du Plessis’ absence, while Highveld Lions all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius has been named as the replacement player.
South Africa retain No. 1 ODI Rank
Meanwhile, With the ODI series win against Bangladesh, the Proteas retained their No. 1 ODI rank. The win has lifted South Africa to 121 points while India’s loss to New Zealand in the first ODI has kept them two points behind Proteas at 119 points.
