Former South African captain Faf du Plessis will lead Bangla Tigers in the 2021 edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 League 2021. The 10-over per-side competition will get underway following the conclusion of this year’s T20 World Cup and Du Plessis will have a point to prove. The right-handed batter can score runs at a brisk pace and his ability to stay at the crease for long makes him an even greater asset.
Moreover, he has a plethora of experience in white-ball cricket and his record is phenomenal as well. However, it must be noted that Du Plessis is yet to play a T10 match and it would be interesting to see how he embraces this challenge. Nevertheless, the veteran is confident of doing well in the new version of the gentleman’s game.
I am looking forward to joining forces with some of the world’s biggest names: Faf du Plesssis
“It is an exciting new format to be part of. I am looking forward to joining forces with some of the world’s biggest names in this league and representing team Bangla Tigers. It is going to be a thrilling time for the game of cricket,” Du Plessis was quoted as saying by The National News.
“It’s heart-warming to see leagues like T10 putting in so much hard work and offering such exciting formats for sports enthusiasts. I can’t wait to get going,” the 37-year-old added. Meanwhile, Bangla Tigers owner Mohammed Yasin Chowdhury was also delighted to get a player of Du Plessis’ caliber on board.
“It is terrific to have a world-class player like Faf in our squad. We have all seen his exploits for South Africa in various formats. He is a champion cricketer. It is a huge honour to have him in our squad. We all know what he has achieved both on and off the field,” said Chowdhury.
Meanwhile, Du Plessis is currently leading Saint Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021. The swashbuckler will also feature in the second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, representing Chennai Super Kings. Although chances are not high, South Africa might include him in their T20 World Cup as well. Hence, Du Plessis will enter the Abu Dhabi T10 leg on the back of a significant amount of cricket.
