The 22nd match of the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2019, witnessed the clash of two arch-rivals India and Pakistan for the seventh time in the tourney. The much-awaited game was expected to be a high-octane thriller but rather turned out to be a one-sided encounter, wherein, the Indian cricket team easily got the better of the neighbours.

The marquee tie began with Pakistan winning the toss and electing to field first under overcast conditions. The Indian team went with one forced change as injured Shikhar Dhawan was replaced by young Vijay Shankar. The duo of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul came out to start the proceedings for the Indian team. The two started the innings in a slow manner by calmly handling the dangerous-looking Mohammad Amir but gradually increased the tempo and began to attack the other bowlers.

After the first five overs, the strategy of the Indians became quite clear. Whilst Rohit took up the role to attack the bowlers, KL Rahul, on the other hand, was farming the strike. This proved to be a brilliant plan as the Men In Blue lost no wickets in the first 20 overs. Wahab Riaz soon dismissed KL Rahul but then came Virat Kohli and he, alongside Rohit, handled the situation very well.

The latter also went on to complete his century by the 30th over. Although he was dismissed a few overs later for a score of 140, a wonderful batting effort from Virat Kohli (77) and a handy cameo from Hardik Pandya (26) helped them to post a magnificent total of 336 runs.

The two Pakistan openers Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq walked out with the hopes of chasing the mammoth total at the Old Trafford. However, they didn’t last long as Imam was dismissed by Vijay Shankar in the 5th over of the game. The team, though, seemed to be in a winning position at the halfway stage but two breakthroughs from Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya respectively almost secured the game in India’s favour.

In the process, rain also interrupted the match and Pakistan was eventually given the target of 136 runs in 5 overs. But the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side was way off target in the chase and was easily vanquished by the Indian team.

After the game ended, the dashing Pakistani opener Imam-ul-Haq posted his Fake Facebook status. The lad said that it would’ve been better had ICC organised a fitness competition instead of giving them a target of 136 runs in 5 overs. Howbeit, his skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed was clearly disagreeing with his statement.
