Fake news of former India cricketer Lakshmipathy Balaji’s accident goes viral on Twitter

Former India cricketer Lakshmipathy Balaji was trending on Thursday morning in India thanks to a fake news that went viral about him. A tweet claiming that the cricketer suffered an accident stunned the fans. Rather the picture of the car involved in the accident was also shared and that led to cricket followers worrying about Balaji’s health. It was also written in the tweet that his condition is critical.
However, soon it came to know that it was a fake news. Moreover, Lakshmipathy Balaji is currently in the UAE with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) working for the franchise as the bowling coach. Recently, CSK’s social media handle had also posted a video in which Balaji was seen praising the skipper MS Dhoni and his knowledge about the game.
Also, another reason the pace bowler was trending on Twitter was that the users were busy responding to a question about the first bowler to take a hat-trick in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Many cricket fans were busy answering the question and it got combined with the fake news of his accident leading Lakshmipathy Balaji to trend on Twitter.
Lakshmipathy Balaji last played for India in 2012
For the unversed, Lakshmipathy Balaji played 8 Tests, 30 ODIs and 5 T20 Internationals for India. He was a decent pace bowler known for his accuracy and picked up 27, 34 and 10 wickets in the respective formats. Balaji last played for India back in 2012 and was sidelined since then.
He also featured in the IPL until the 2014 season and last played domestic cricket in 2015. However, the bowler also played in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) for the Tuti Patriots in 2016. Since then though he hasn’t played any competitive cricket and is the bowling coach of CSK now.
As far as his IPL career, Balaji played 73 matches and accounted for 76 scalps at an impressive average of 26.7 and economy of 8.04.
