Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra having spent a substantial part of his life initiating the proceedings for his team with the bat loves to kick start things and having called it a day as a professional cricketer he holds the microphone now sharing his insights about the game before during and after a match. He is a proficient English commentator but being a Delhi lad has a delightful command over Hindi and thus is a part of the Hindi commentary team as well.

India is a country where only a sleek population is comfortable with English and given an option even a chunk from that prefers Hindi as it helps them connect a lot better emotionally. Given Aakash’s soothing voice and comprehensive commentary, it has had a great impact on the listeners. It is so often that we see tweets flood in praising him for the phrases that he uses during discussions which makes it a vivid experience for the viewers. One such fan Rajiv Bhatnagar from Bangalore chose to pen down almost a full-length post about Aakash and the features of his Hindi commentary and posted it on Facebook.

He wrote, “The Star Sports’ avant-garde feature of Hindi Commentary has recently been added, rather, a separate channel – Star Sports 3 – has been dedicated for this purpose which is capable of holding us in good stead. Now, we can enjoy every moment of cricket in our mother tongue.”

“DD Channels happen to telecast Hindi and English Commentary in tandem with ball by ball descriptions by nudnik speakers, but are like watching paint dry thereby badly jarring the sense of language which has left all of us thunderstruck. But, of late, the present scenario has undergone a seismic change as the Star Sports known for adding new features since its inception, has changed the things drastically and pleasantly. Aakash Chopra is the name that has brought fame to this Hindi edition by his flawless rhetoric, extrovert views and amicable mien with a knack for tossing off the perfect bon-mot with the fellow commentators like Veeru et al.” Rajiv further mentioned.

“His dulcet tone is music to the ears and has got the gift of the gab, the way he uses Hindi phrases & maxims on the situation is felicitous, his unbelievable clarity of thoughts, discerning views, vivid description of game, effusive praise for the players irrespective of nations, critical analysis of the pitch, adjustment of tone with the ups and downs of the match and impeccable change of voice (cheers, shrieks and groans) with the shots, run outs and fall of wickets are a few traits that make him a great commentator who is likely to create a sensation among the audience.

“He has, in fact, taken the Hindi commentary to a new height with the sanctity of propose & openness of mind and is going great guns unrelentingly and gracefully. He has gone that extra mile to become a dabster at commentary but seldom vilipend those who are not good at speaking Hindi or comfortable with Hindi such as VVS.

“Apart from King Kohli and Devastating Dhoni, it is only Admirable Aakash: the unsung hero, who regales us with his mellifluous voice and wise cracks coupled with appropriate sayings and most importantly he elucidates the nuances of cricket majestically that may help the budding talents or child prodigies improve their performances. I wish him all the very best. Keep your chin up Aakash!”

A pretty descriptive message is quite evident of the fact that fans are certainly enjoying listening to Aakash on air and given that he talks in Hindi has helped him reach to the masses. He has definitely grown in stature as an individual in the second innings of his life while also lifting the game of cricket along. We certainly hope Aakash continues his endeavours with Hindi commentary and captivates the fans towards the game.
