Fan touches Rohit Sharma's feet, tries to kiss him twice

India’s deputy captain Rohit Sharma was back in the news, but this time it was for a very different and rather embarrassing reason. Rohit is currently playing for Mumbai in India’s domestic one-day tournament, the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Since this isn’t an international fixture, security for such matches is fairly relaxed. However, for fans who are able to attend these games, it is an opportunity for them to witness the batting of some of India’s greatest cricketers. But one particular fan wanted something more.

Rohit is one of India’s leading limited-overs batsmen. The opener is likely to remain in cricket’s history books for a very long time for having scored not one, not two, but three double centuries in One-Day Internationals. He also holds the record for the highest individual score in an ODI, which currently stands at a whopping 264 scored against Sri Lanka. They call him Hitman for a reason, and for many in India, Rohit is nothing short of Superman either.

The Vijay Hazare Trophy fixtures were hence an opportunity to watch players like him in action. But one fan had set his eyes on a bigger target than to just watch him bat. The bizarre incident took place during Mumbai’s quarter-final clash against Bihar on Sunday. This man jumped over the fence at Bengaluru’s Just Cricket Academy Ground and ran to the middle of the pitch to bring a stop to play. He then touched his feet in admiration of Rohit and hugged him. However, this fan then proceeded to kiss the cricketer on his cheek, although the batsman was wearing a helmet.

But that wasn’t enough for this man. He went for a second kiss on the opener’s cheek, by which point Rohit was visibly disgusted. The batsman gestured to the fan, possibly saying, “What on earth are you doing?” Before running off the field, the fan tried to touch Rohit’s feet one last time, but Hitman wasn’t pleased at all and pulled his feet back. All said and done, the man ran off the field jumping for joy, and celebrating what was quite certainly the most cherished moment in his life.
