Moeen Ali’s Test career has been a witness to a topsy-turvy ride thus far. Prior to England’s ongoing Test series against India, the all-rounder last played in the format back in August 2019 against Australia in Birmingham. Even in the opening Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, he didn’t get a chance as the Three Lions preferred Dominic Bess and Jack Leach.

But in the second Test at the Chepauk itself, he got a chance in the purest format of the game. He didn’t flatter to deceive in the first day’s play, at least with the ball in hand. In the meantime, the fans at the Chepauk decided to have some fun with the bearded beast.

The fans asked him about updates on superstar Ajith’s upcoming movie ‘Valimai’, which has been the talk of the town. Not being able to understand what’s been told, Moeen waved his hand with a smile on his face.

Here’s the video:

That was a world-class delivery: Jack Leach on Moeen Ali dismissing Virat Kohli

In the first day’s play, Moeen got rid of Indian skipper Virat Kohli for a duck with a delivery that spun back sharply. Leach, who’s Ali’s spin partner in the game, lauded him for bowling the ‘world-class’ delivery. Leach told how the audience at the Chepauk went into complete silence.

“It was great to see Moeen do that. It was world-class. That was a world-class delivery,” Moeen was quoted as saying to the reporters.

“The ground went silent which is nice to do out here. It was my first experience of an Indian crowd and I have never heard a noise like it when he (Kohli) came to the wicket. And then it went very quiet when he got out,” Leach added.

Leach also sounded confident about England doing well with the bat. He didn’t forget to heap praises on Rohit Sharma, who scored a ton on the opening day.

“As you saw with Rohit Sharma and Rahane, that once you get a partnership going with that older ball it can get a little bit easier,” Leach said.

“So we have to certainly believe that we can do the same when we come to bat. Rohit played a serious knock. He is obviously a world-class player,” he added.
