Favourites India opened their campaign in the ICC Women’s World Cup today as they took on hosts England at Derby. Coming on to bat first the Indian inning was marked by stellar performances from everyone who came into bat. India finished their stint scoring 281 runs at the loss of 3 wickets.

Smriti Mandhana was the leading scorer with a staggering 90 runs while Poonam Raut was not too far behind with her score of 86. Skipper Mithali Raj came out to bat when Mandhana fell victim just after entering the nervous 90’s and smashed a well coordinated 71 run knock. Harmanpreet Kaur also played a little cameo of 24 runs from just 22 balls which included a handsome six.

In the picture, Mithali was seen reading a book with her pads on when the Indian openers looked comfortable at the crease. The 34-year-old looked cool as a cucumber as she waited for her turn to bat.
