Cricket is an unforgiving sport. Many players, at times, are on the receiving end of the criticism after failing to deliver in crunch situations. Moreover, the cut-throat competition has notched up the pressure of performing at a consistent rate.
Cricketers are hailed as superstars in India and their fan-following is on a whole different level altogether. The appreciation which a player receives after delivering match-winning performance is second to none. However, the same player also has to face the wrath of fans if he fails to live up to the expectations in some matches.
There have been many instances when a player has been trolled mercilessly for his poor performances. In recent times, India internationals like Rishabh Pant and Vijay Shankar have been excessively trolled on social media for their inconsistent performances. While Pant has been bashed for his poor glovework and shot selection, Shankar has been trolled for sluggish batting.
#RespectAllCricketersOnTwitter becomes top trend on Twitter
Social media, in no time, gets filled with memes and also some derogatory posts if a player fails to deliver in pressure. However, in the move to change this practice, the netizens recently took a pledge that no cricketers will further face the heat on social media.
#RespectAllCricketersOnTwitter became one of the top trends on Twitter and many fans vowed to stop trolling cricketers on the micro-blogging website. Trolling cricketers instantly spreads negativity across social media. Hence, many fans came forward and swore to spread positivity and respect for the players.
One fan also pointed out that representing the country at international level is one of the toughest jobs to do. Players, on and off the field, commit their entire life to serve the country and deliver match-winning performances. Hence, it’s the duty of every fan to respect their commitment instead of trolling them for their poor performances.
Meanwhile, all players currently have no choice but to stay at home and enjoy their time with family. The coronavirus pandemic has forced the world to come to a standstill and fans are eagerly waiting for the resumption of sports in the near future.
