Indian Cricket fans were certainly not amused when they saw the name of former Indian Skipper Sourav Ganguly missing from the BCCI’s “Greatest XI” which was selected via an online poll to mark India’s historic 500th Test.

Over the course of the last five days, former cricketers like Kapil Dev, Zaheer Khan, Ravi Shastri and Sanjay Manjrekar also selected their preferred teams during the telecast of the 1st Test. The Indian board, however, decided to take the public opinion and put out the final results on the 5th Day of the Kanpur Test.

The Greatest XI had one big name – Sourav Ganguly – missing which according to many should have fond the place in the team without any second guess. Even more surprising was the fact that left-hander Yuvraj Singh.

Yuvi, unfortunately, could never emulate his limited overs performance in the Test format and was never a permanent member of India’s Test side. But, ironically, he polled 62% of the votes and was named as the 12th man. Yuvi played 40 Tests for India, scoring 1900 at an average of 33.92. The 34-year-old has 3 centuries and 11 fifties to his name.

On the other hand, Ganguly, regarded as one of the greatest Indian skippers, donned the Indian whites on 113 occasions scoring 7212 runs at an average of 42.17. The stylish left-hander hit 16 centuries and 25 centuries.

Hence the selection of Yuvraj over Ganguly infuriated the latter’s fans. The social media is generally the place where you can see the emotion flowing so it was natural that there was an slight outrage on Twitter.
