Every batter in their top order were getting starts, but the problem arose when none of them were able to convert those starts into bigger totals. Towhid Hridoy was the highest scorer for Bangladesh, who managed to hit a fantastic fifty. The middle order further disappointed the team, where they got out in single-digit scores, and the team was down to 169 runs for the loss of nine wickets.

The rain had affected the match at the start, which resulted in the match being reduced to 43 overs a side. So the target given to the Afghanistan team was 170 runs. Afghanistan cautiously started their chase and scored 54 runs for their opening partnership. They lost two wickets within the span of four overs, but still, there was nothing to worry about. They had scored 83 runs for the loss of two wickets after 21.4 overs when rain returned again. It started pouring so heavily that the match had to be stopped there, and Afghanistan were 17 runs ahead of the DLS score they were supposed to be at. Since the match could not be continued further, Afghanistan were declared the winner of the match by 17 runs (DLS Method).
