Essex will take on Kent in the 101st match of the Vitality T20 Blast 2023 at County Ground in Chelmsford. Essex are currently placed at number three in the points table with seven wins in ten matches, while Kent are in number five with five wins and losses each from their ten games.
Essex lost their last game against Somerset. After being asked to bat first, Essex found themselves in trouble after losing 3 wickets for just 15 runs. Batter Robin Das and all-rounder Paul Walter stitched a partnership of 94 runs which was much needed for Essex. Paul Walter was dismissed for 51 off 27 by Ben Green. Later, Matt Henry dismissed Robin Das, who scored 72 off 39. And Essex somehow managed to score 186 from 15-3 at one stage. While chasing 187, Somerset openers went berserk against Essex bowers. Wicketkeeper-batter Tom Banton scored 42 runs at a strike rate of 140, and his opening partner Will Smeed scored 36 off 16. Both were dismissed by Daniel Sams later. Later on, Tom Abell 40* (26), and Sean Dickson 30* (17), carried Somerset home with a comfortable chase with 21 balls to spare.
Kent won their last outing against Sussex by six wickets. Sussex opted to bat first, which didn't go well as they were able to post 169 runs for the loss of seven wickets on the board with the help of skipper Ravi Bopara's 53 (39). Chasing 170 Kent was restricted to 25 for three by Aristides Karvelas and Tymal Mills. Daniel Bell Drummond 38(31), Jordan Cox 82* (44), and Jack Leaning 28* (26) carried them towards victory.
