Melbourne Stars (STA) will take on the Sydney Sixers (SIX) in the 31st game of the ongoing Big Bash League 2022 on Friday (January 6) at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Sixers have dominated the Stars in the last few seasons and won the last eight matches. Stars shared a video on their Twitter account a day before the game to showcase the massacre that Marcus Stonins brought against the Sixers when he scored 147 runs off just 79 deliveries. It happened during the 2019-20 season of the league, and interestingly this was the last time the Stars defeated the arch-rival in the tournament. Apart from a half-century against the Adelaide Strikers on the eve of the New Year, Stoinis has failed to do much for the team this year and has been dismissed for a duck twice in six outings. It will be fascinating to see what the 33-year-old all-rounder brings out in this game.

The Sixers have been one of the best teams this season and have won four out of eight matches so far. Their last game against the Brisbane Heat ended in no result due to rain. A win in this game will help the last year’s runner-up to make it to the top of the points table. The Stars have suffered with a mediocre performance this season in the absence of their captain, Glenn Maxwell. They are languishing in the last place in the points tally with just two wins in seven matches and have already lost once to the Sixers this season.
