Yuzvendra Chahal’s omission from India’s T20 World Cup 2021 squad was indeed a big shock. After all, the leg-break bowler has been India’s lead spinner in white-ball cricket for the past few years. Although he hasn’t been at his prime lately, Chahal bowled brilliantly during the Sri Lanka tour and seemed to have redeemed himself. However, the selectors didn’t pick the 31-year-old despite the tournament taking place in spin-friendly pitches of UAE and Oman.

Needless to mention, Chahal would have been disappointed missing out on Team India’s berth. However, it seems like the selectors’ decision hasn’t gone down well with him. Notably, the BCCI selectors named five spin-bowling options in India’s 15-man squad. Ravichandran Ashwin, Varun Chakravarthy, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Rahul Chahar will handle the spin department in the gala tournament.

Speaking of Chahal’s exclusion, BCCI chief selector Chetan Sharma said spinners who bowl quickly were prioritized. It seems like this explanation didn’t amuse the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) leg-spinner. At least, his latest social-media activity indicates the same. Reply to a tweet from the cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra, Chahal took a cheeky dig at the demand for ‘faster spinners.’

Apparently, Chopra, in his post, also suggested spinners who bowl quickly will get success in the UAE leg of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Responding to the same, Chahal questioned the requirement of ‘faster spinners’ “Faster spinner bhaiya? #justkidding,” he commented alongside a laughing emoji.

Yuzvendra Chahal is India’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is

Chahal’s remarks went viral in no time as netizens were sure the leg-spinner isn’t happy with his exclusion. For the unversed, Chahal is India’s highest wicket-taker in the shortest international format, having scalped 63 wickets in 49 games. Owing to the same, his omission from the squad several eyebrows.

Meanwhile, Chahal had opened up about his omission from the India squad. He said bad form was getting on his nerves after a dismal campaign in the initial half of IPL 2021. “Bad form was playing on my mind a bit, especially after the IPL. I sat down with my wife Dhanashree who helped me. She told me that every day you won’t take wickets, it’s just a bad phase,” Chahal said on Aakash Chopra’s YouTube channel.

“I knew that I was bowling well but sometimes in T20 cricket, it’s very hard to take wickets if a batsman doesn’t attack. It affects you when you don’t have wickets to show in the column,” he added.
