Coming at no. 3 of this list, Herbert Sutcliffe was an English opener. He played county cricket for Yorkshire and scored a record 50,670 runs in 754 matches. His career was obstructed by several phase of the World Wars. Although he is not a frequently heard name, but he was a batting gem of his time. He is one of the best English batsman ever played the game, averaging 60.73 in 54 tests, scoring 4555 runs. His career average is the highest among English batsmen and 6th highest in the world stage. He completed the 2000 test runs in the 33rd innings of his life while playing vs the West Indies in Manchester. Apart from being a cricketer, he even served the English Army and was also a successful businessman, who runned a shop of sports goods.
