Considered as one of the best test batsman among the West Indians, George Headley was a top order batsman, batting at no. 3. He was born in Panama, but was brought up in Jamaica and played domestic cricket representing the Jamaicans. He played a lot of cricket from 1927 to 1954. But his career was often interrupted due to war. He was the first black person to be the captain of a cricket team. But his captaincy career lasted for just one match. He was playing the 32nd test innings in the 17th test match, against England in Lords; when he achieved this feat. Overall, he scored 2,190 runs in Tests at an average of 60.83, and 9,921 runs in all first-class matches at an average of 69.86. In the later part of his career, he even joined English County League, but could not get back his legacy. He was chosen as one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1934.
