FICA announces top 10 T20 players; Virat Kohli doesn't feature in the list

The Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been in amazing form in the recent times and has set the stage on fire more often than not after coming to bat on the field. In the ongoing tour South Africa tour, he has raked a lot of runs by scoring as many as four centuries in Test and ODI series combined. He also looked in great touch during the T20 Internationals and averages over 50 in the format. However, Kohli doesn’t even feature in the top 10 T20 players of Federation of International Cricket Association (FICA).

FICA released the player performance index for the first time which has the swashbuckling hitter from Australia Glenn Maxwell at the top. Sunil Narine is second on this list who has been opening the innings in the T20 leagues around the world these days. The performance index is the first system to evaluate the players’ performance based on both domestic and international cricket in the shortest format.

What is the rank of Kohli?

Virat Kohli, who is third in the ICC T20 ranking for batsmen, is featured 13th on this list with 679 points behind the likes of David Willey and Shahid Afridi who are just above him. However, it is very surprising that the player with the average of over 50 in the T20 Internationals who smashes the runs with amazing consistency is not even in the top 10 list of FICA.

Though one can understand the reason for India’s most valuable player not topping the charts this time around. The players’ performance index takes into account, the T20 cricket played around the world in which most of the players feature. On the other hand, the Indian players only lay the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) as the BCCI doesn’t allow them to take part in any other league citing the workload on the top players.

Interestingly, the FICA rankings would change dramatically during the IPL with as many as 58 out of the top 100 players set to play in the tournament.
