Prithvi Shaw, the 18-year-old teenage sensation from Thane, Maharashtra, made a fairytale start to his international career. He went to England for India’s last two Tests at The Ageas Bowl and Kennington Oval respectively but didn’t get a game. However, fortunes favoured him when India took the field for their home Test against Windies at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.

He not only became second youngest debutant in Test cricket after Vijay Mehra in 1955 but also went on to become the country’s youngest century-maker. He opened the batting with KL Rahul, who was nipped out by speedster Shannon Gabriel. But the situation didn’t get the better of Shaw’s nerves by any stretch of the imagination and he played with sheer fluency.

Shaw dictates terms

He had Cheteshwar Pujara at the other end, who puts a price tag on his wicket. Shaw went on to score his first half-century in 56 balls and was undoubtedly the aggressor in the stand. Thereafter, he didn’t become complacent and rather, kept smothering the bowling without much fuss. In the 33rd over, he accomplished his maiden Test for India in red-ball cricket.

Moreover, he accomplished the milestone in a mere 99 deliveries. The pugnacious potential eventually went on to notch 134 runs from 154 balls with the help of 19 boundaries. The youngster was nipped out against the run of play by leg-break bowler Devendra Bishoo. The Windies would be happy with the wicket for the reason that Shaw was taking the game away from them quickly.

In the meantime, Durex, a renowned condom manufacturing company, wished Shaw for his masterclass. The company is known for its creative marketing tactics and they have also shown their creativeness while coming up with tweets surrounding players from around the globe.  They took to Twitter and wrote, “The Shaw must go on. #INDvWI,”
