Anil Kumble took over the reigns around this time last year and there was so much elation around the Indian fans to see such a stalwart of the game taking up one of the most coveted posts in world cricket. Kumble did work wonders for Indian cricket over the last one year, but due to some unfortunate reasons, he stepped down on Tuesday as the head coach.

During his time, one of the biggest changes that took place was the change in captaincy. MS Dhoni quit captaincy duties from the limited overs formats(ODIs and T20Is) and Virat Kohli became India’s full-time captain. Apart from the apparent altercation between Kohli and Kumble, everything about the last one year under Jumbo was terrific.

His tenure also saw the rise of some youngsters, who’ve shown some great promise and will make a strong case for themselves to be a regular in the side. Not just youngsters, but some senior pros like Yuvraj Singh made a sensational comeback to the ODI side this January, all thanks to the trust shown by the captain and the coach.

One of the brightest prospects of Indian cricket and quite a rare outlet, Kuldeep Yadav is gearing up to baffle batsmen with his chinaman bowling. Kuldeep was roped into the playing XI in the final Test match against Australia, something no one really saw coming. The left arm spinner impressed one and all with a tremendous spell of bowling in the first innings.

His duel with Glenn Maxwell, where the latter spanked him for a boundary with no respite and got cleaned up the next ball for an absolute beauty was something no one will forget. Kumble and Kohli took an audacious call to bring in Kuldeep, but that proved to be a masterstroke in the series decider and India eventually won the game. Being a wrist spinner himself, Kumble helped Kuldeep nourish significantly over the last one year.
